Why ghost stories dominate Bengali audio:
1. Sunday Suspense trained a generation. Since 29 June 2009, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM Kolkata turned horror into appointment listening, and millions followed the archive to YouTube. 2. Ghosts are communal. A bhuter golpo is told at night, in groups, with the lights low. Audio is the natural format; text is a compromise. 3. The vocabulary is huge: bhuter golpo, bhoyer golpo, vuter golpo, gram banglar bhuter golpo. Every spelling variant is somebody's search, and they all lead to audio. 4. Horror is cheap to produce and endless in supply. One narrator, one mic, one village ghost, infinite episodes. 5. Fear is universal and language-proof. A well-timed silence scares in every dialect.
